For the Lads...

Even though it's a one sided story, I totally enjoyed The Wind That Shakes the Barley.

It's a powerful film about a man's idealism to fight for Ireland and the freedom the country deserves. It's a story about Love, Family and Friendship.

It's the kind of film that makes me feel that movies are not just for entertainment.

It's necessary.

They won best short film in this year's Singapore International Film Festival.

Good work guys.

I expect to see their names on imdb soon.

But I still hate the original writer though.

Race Against Time

I hate screenwriting under such a short time span. The treatment still has loop holes thanks to XXX & YYY.

Not that I mind, but the timings couldn't be any worse.

Hopefully, in a week's time, I can clean up the loop holes and at least come up with about half the screenplay of Man with a Silver Case.

Even that title is going through a change.

Further updates on the project soon.

Spy Craft

Kinda an old story about the spy.

Read article here.

I wonder, why can't they work together. It's hard to choose between the two.

Oldboy shouldn't be blamed!

As read on Joe Carnahan's Blog

"The inevitable knives have come out for the entertainment industry's
role in this horrible ordeal. 'Oldboy' Chan Wook Park's 2003 revenge film has
been cited as probable inspiration for that asswipe's senseless slaughter of thirty-two innocent souls...and it just doesn't ride. There are sick, deviantly, deeply disturbed f*cking people roaming this rock and movies HAVE never been and WILL never be a mitigating factor in extreme acts of hatred and violence. The demons that whispered to that pathetic piece of shit were working the wheel and grinding the gears long before 'Oldboy' ever appeared on the 'New Releases' rack.

Don't blame anybody but that lunatic and whatever lack of proper parenting contributed to his condition:

PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR KIDS. TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR UPBRINGING. TRY TO FOSTER DECENT, LOVING, RESPECTFUL CHILDREN."

So here's my say, "It would have happened anyway, with or without Oldboy. I don't like the fact, but it would have happened. Anyway."

Like 28 Days Later

The return of my eye fatigue. My eyes are so blood shot, I look like I'm straight out of the infected from 28 Days Later.

But God, I love work too much to take a break.

I need a life.

Top Ten Onscreen Ladies

My gang keep forcing to identify what kind of ladies would attract me. It was difficult to choose since there's so many.

They came up with Ming-Na Wen, or Gillian Anderson, or Maggie Q and lots more. It just bothers me that I can't come up with one. And I realized that the ones I listed are usually great onscreen femme fatales. Keyword: Onscreen.

Argh!

So forget Ming-Na Wen, or Gillian Anderson, or Maggie Q that they shortlisted for me. After a week since then, it has been in my mind for far too long.

So Here's my fave 2007:

Ten: Rebecca Romijn
The femme in blue from X-Men. Ooh~

Nine: Yeong-ae Lee
No, not A Jewel in the Palace. Watch her in Lady Vengeance.

Eight: Ellen Page
Watch Hard Candy and learn: Never talk to little girls.

Seven:
Faye Dunaway
Chinatown. Enuff' said.

Six: Kelly Chen
Forget
Vera Farmiga, this is the Asian actress in Infernal Affairs. Yes, I prefer Asians. If you see her in person, I dare you to play staring games with her. Watch Breaking News too.

Five: Carina Lau
The boss' wife in Infernal Affairs II. Her character in the prequel even inspired the trilogy's soundtrack. Gosh, I wish I have a lady like that.

Four:
Maggie Cheung
2046 or Hero. I don't know, does that count?

Three: Ingrid Bergman
"Of all the gin joints, in all the towns, in all the world, she had to walk into mine." Out from my favorite film, Casablanca.

Two: Natalie Portman
The wannabe assassin girl with revenge in her head - Leon: The Professonal. "It's from, Mathilda."

Numbero Uno: Déborah François

Have you seen her in The Page Turner? So smoking hot, so dangerous, so dark.
French, does it better.

If only she speaks louder in person.
If only she's Asian.

Most might not agree with me, and I'm sure I have left out a few. But it's my list.

Mine.

Put the humor from Bloods, Guts, and Octane, mixed it with the heavy "save the future" feel from The Ticker, and add a little feel desperate tension from Narc (which I love by the way):

"BLAM BLAM BLAM EXPLETIVE EXPLETIVE PLOT TWIST FBI EXPLETIVE BLAM BLAM BLAM EXPLODING SKULL HOTEL SECURITY BLAM GUY SITS ON A CHAINSAW MONTAGE BLAM BLAM BLAM ROLL CREDITS. Smokin' Aces"
- The New York Times reviewer who hated it as claimed by the movie's marketers.

Whatever he is smoking, BIG R-E-S-P-E-C-T for Joe Carnahan.

Heart Harden

I weep for Atlas.

After a really long day, more than twenty-four hours without sleeping, I am still unable to rest. My mind has become encumbered with the misdeeds that I have done.

It is not easy being broken. And there can be only two outcome from a broken person. He can:
* Stay broken and turns this into his life as norm or,
* Fix himself and become a whole new and better person.

However, I keep finding myself becoming this new person but I'm always angrier. And I don't know who am I angry with! What usually follows is work that I force myself to be overwhelmed with.

Every single time I get knocked down, I come back learnt and hardened.

Maybe all I really need is a little pat on the shoulders.

Or a little encouragement.

Or a little love.

Or God sized hole to be filled in me and a hug from Him.

Or a little paper bag for my face.

(In order to be loved, you have to love thyself...)

I should watch Rocky again. "Get Hit. Move Forward."

Spin

I first saw this short film Spin two years ago on atomfilms.com

The director Jamin Winans had created so much hype with this film that he got investors to rise funds for his feature film 11:59.

Online screening is not a bad thing people. It's the new way to get audiences around the world.

Here's his commerical, Go Fast.

Huge respect to this guy. Visit Double Edge Films at http://www.doubleedgefilms.com/

I had a nightmare

After much of my meetings and running around (and even eating my dinner while I was having a telephone conversation), I took a bus home from the south end of Singapore.

I noticed that there's many anti-smoking ads at bus stops - the ones with a poster of a lady with bad looking mouth.

This lady in front of my seat turned to me and she has that foul mouth! She was saying, "Stop leaning on my chair!"

My iPod was playing More Human than Human by White Zombie.

It was freaking M18 rating. I kid you not, I woke up sweating.

Read articles here and here.

I would say that it's a great campaign and the group behind it has outdone themselves. I just wonder, how long does it take for us to be numb about it and they need to disturb us even further.

A campaign for three months? Try one man. Why numb us? Just shock us and leave.

When I read the papers in the morning, I jumped when I see the printed ad. Hell, I bought an 8 Days magazine and there's the poster girl again at the back inner cover! I freaked out flipping to that page.

Maybe that's the reason why we are crazy.

While I'm at it, DO NOT WATCH HILL HAVE EYES II! Try staring at the poster for two hours! It's cheaper!

Still, good campaign though.

But hey! Finally! Singapore can one day shoot good monster movies!

p.s. I refuse to post the picture of the poster up.

Somebody else was there too.

I realized that Joe Carnahan was there too. Then, I felt better.

But I'm still upset.

Watch out World, for I am coming.
