Gone are the Cinema

For those who love Lost or 24, and for those who don't play video games but love the movies, please read anyway.

Just for fun, let's watch the opening for the "DVD Box set" Alone in the Dark first:

For a long time video games tell stories in cinematic ways. i.e. The three act structure, the dynamic camera angles, character driven, etc, etc.

The best example is Metal Gear Solid, Gears of War and Resident Evil. Silent Hill even.

As of today, I have a new love: Alone in the Dark.

For those who love Lost, you will definitely love Alone in the Dark.

It does not just have the cinematic story telling anymore. Instead, it follows television series format. For example: When you start playing, you play by episodes. Once completed, you will play the next one, starting if a recap of the last episode with a little preview of what you will see in this one.

Also, the opening theme plays.

Of course the players can choose to skip it.

Also, players can choose their "DVD" episode. This means that they can skip episodes in case they are unable to survive that stage. The developers have considered about cheating and in order to get to the finale, play everything first.

It is a sign that television is back and has evolved and is influencing the way we tell stories.

Again, for those who don't play video games but love the movies, I strongly urge you to watch this:

Yes, their marketing and style work. I'm sure. I. Will. Play. Alone in the Dark. I am going to love this word: Previously.

FUCKING MIND BLOWING.

Soon, TV will come back to try and take over cinema again.

Another Production Saved!

It feels good to crush unethical producers and directors out there. I should reward myself.

Just when I schedule for a good long sleep...

Construction workers had to drill the roads near my crib.

KNNCBB

Killing the baby

Yes, I'm still trying to kill it in post. Only thing that's stopping me is the amount of work and effort put into it.

Lesson learnt: NEVER WORK WITH PRIMA DONNAS. FUCKING EGOISTIC, VAIN MOTHER F*&#ERS!

I have been so broken hearted over the destruction of it.

Jake and Amir

I love the production value versus the content. Totally, totally enjoyable. Here's three of my favorites:

Watch Jake and Amir here. I'm quite addicted to it.

The Last Mission

Before the remakes take over, here's to Hideo and his end of his legend.

This makes it hard for me to decide, 360's Gears of War I & II, or PS3's Metal Gear Solid 4 - Guns of the Patriots.

Here's a little product endorsement.

"America better sleep soundly while she can..."

Yes, the fans cry too.

Bad Boys 3 - Cheena on Vice

Yep, we should do a spin off.

So whatcha gonna do?

Listen to Michael Mann

251 - I forgot how much I miss Bossa Nova

This is the 251st entry: Two hundred and fifty-one are the amount of men Grace Qwek set the record with.

That aside, I realized how much I missed Bossa Nova.

Céu - Concrete Jungle

Shut In

I have written my first attempt at a pure drama for a group of NTU students.

At their screening, I must say that I'm rather proud of them with their end product.

Rough Trailer:

It's nice to hear the audience laugh and gasp for the characters. The heavy applause made me so proud of them.

So here's to Pamela Chong and Emily Qian on a job well attempted and sticking with the 70 percent of the script.

I am glad to be their associate producer/writer.

Screwback

Very well done short film. Story is a little thin, but I love the style.

Haunted by Memory/Scene from Monique

Every single day, I am still being haunted by what JnTe did to destroy my *baby*. I bury myself with imagines of the streets between the city and the roads.

Meanwhile, here's something from the manuscript Monique (Working Title):

INT. BASEMENT CAR PARK - DAY

They are looking at a dead body of a girl contorted into the boot of the car.

. STEVEN
. You alright?

Yan had seen enough and marches down the basement heading out.

Steven follows her.
They pass MICHAEL. He is an officer, in his late forties, from the Criminal Investigation Division who is assigned to the case.

. MICHAEL
. I hope you can sleep well tonight.

Yan pushes him out of her way.

I am still very pissed off! From now on, I will make sure I work with a team player, not a team member with ego problems!

Following Up on Mann & Depp

This is such a happy end from this post.

Michael Mann and Johnny Depp actually raced to get this done.

Who knew it will turn into Public Enemies?

From Mann's choice for the Director of Photography, he is working with Dante Spinotti again. It could be Mann back on film.

I really can't wait for it.

By the way, in strange events, Cain has convinced me to shoot my night scenes of Monique on film.

I Come with the Rain

That's what I love about this film:

Huge cast, imperfect characters, crime, desperation, violence -

Massive Attack has always been a favorite reference for soundtracks.

It's so different from Scent of the Green Papaya. Can't wait to see it.

And it went on and on between the old people talk through MSN.

Peeing from my nose

Yes, that means I'm sick and stuck with a runny nose.

I still have "Monique" to finish.

The Unbeatables Boxset

I just wish that there's a DVD boxset on the first season of The Unbeatables. I really miss the drama series.

I hope I don't have to settle for this for long.

The Old Kind

After years of watching films with inner conflicted characters, heavy talkies or plot twists, I kinda miss the late 80s Hollywood films where they just bomb everything.

Just high speed chases, gun firing, slow motion, cheesy one-liners and explosions.

Hmm...
